Music
Music has been important to Holy Spirit from the beginning. Before we even had a building, we had a library of choral music (largely given to us by Christ Church Cathedral -- some of which is still in use today). We have established a reputation as a church where music is "done right" and are considered by many to be one of the leading traditional music churches in west Houston. Our amateur Parish Choir, undergirded by a professional quartet, sings a wide variety of music ranging from medieval plainchant to pieces newly composed especially for them. Our mechanical-action pipe organ was built in 1979 in a North German Baroque style and was renovated and enlarged in 2014 to better serve as an accompaniment instrument for the congregation and choir and to better play a wide variety of repertoire. The facade pipes are arranged to suggest a descending dove for the Church of the Holy Spirit. Our organist-choirmaster has just completed his 25th year at Holy Spirit. and continues to inspire the choir to enrich our worship experience as they preserve historic traditions while exploring new possibilities.
