Our History
Holy Spirit first opened its doors in 1958, meeting as a mission church in a west Houston elementary school, eventually moving to a chapel built on our current 10 acre site owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. In 1962, Holy Spirit Episcopal School opened to children ages 3-5. By 1969, the nave, church offices and school were completed; the school expanded to serve elementary school aged children by 1975.
Today, our church and school facilities also include a gymnasium with attached kitchen, a middle school wing,
and a remodeled parish hall with a full-sized kitchen.

We held a capital campaign in 2017, which enabled major renovations and systems updates to our campus, without incurring any additional debt, beyond what funds pledged to the campaign would satisfy. Our church and school communities have collaborated on numerous fundraisers, splitting the proceeds to target technology updates, landscaping, special programs, and outreach efforts.
Many of the spaces on our campus are shared by the church and school.

We are committed to calling leaders who share our vision and who will join us in furthering the mission

Holy Spirit’s vestry is comprised of 15 dedicated lay members who have been elected to work
with the rector to lead the parish into great ministry. Members are elected for 3 year terms,
with five rolling off and five new members elected by the congregation each year during our Annual Meeting.
The vestry meets monthly to discern how best to be good stewards of the church’s resources and
to strive to create space for the people of our community to encounter our living loving God.
