Outreach
The Holy Spirit community is dedicated and focused on helping others.
Outreach is a pillar of our church and a defining characteristic of our congregation.
Bayou City Blessings in a Backpack
One of our most impactful ministries,
Bayou City Blessings in a Backpack, is sponsored and housed by Holy Spirit Episcopal Church. BCB was founded at HSEC in 2012 and provides weekend food to 2,400 students in 13 different schools across Houston ISD & Spring Branch ISD. Students in our program rely on school-provided meals as their main food source and are at risk of being hungry over the weekend. BCB partners with schools to remove hunger as an educational barrier and to build community. Members of the Holy Spirit congregation, students and staff from Holy Spirit Episcopal School, and members from the broader community, including employees of neighboring businesses and corporations, provide donations (food and financial), help pack, and deliver. |
Holy Spirit provides financial and/or volunteer support to the below missions and agencies.
Memorial Assistance Ministries
provides a wide range of services for low income families living in the Memorial area of Houston. Holy Spirit is a Member Congregation with a commitment to make an annual monetary contribution. Many of our members regularly make donations to their retail shop and volunteer in their professional services division. |
West Houston Assistance Ministries
is similar to MAM, but serves people specifically in west Houston. Parishioners make contributions to their retail shop and volunteer services. Holy Spirit provides specifically-requested Christmas gifts for families enrolled at both MAM & WHAM. |
Lord of the Streets
is an Episcopal Mission Church of the Diocese of Texas. LOTS provides a variety of ministries and services to Houston's homeless community. In addition to creating relationships and worship opportunities, LOTS provides food, toiletries, mail service and a clinic. Holy Spirit is a Supporting Congregation, and we often conduct drives to support their members. A recent shoe drive donated 88 pairs of shoes. |
RaiseUp Families
provides financial assistance to parents of school-age children while helping them attain higher income jobs and teaching them invaluable budgeting skills. The relational and individualized care gives parents the training and confidence to realize and maintain a better future for their children. Holy Spirit provides financial and volunteer assistance. |
Mission of Yahweh
provides transitional housing to at-risk women and children. A group of our volunteers, led by Holy Spirit's DOK, organize and sponsor Bingo for the women on the first Friday of each month -a fun-filled afternoon of games, prizes, and fellowship. In August, 2023, the women of Holy Spirit were honored as Volunteers of the Month for their continued commitment to this ministry |
