Holy Spirit Traditions
The Holy Spirit community has wonderful traditions bringing
multiple generations together for shared activities.
Advent
Each week in Advent brings seasonal services, activities, and decorations to the nave. We begin on the first Sunday of Advent by making Advent wreaths to take home, and continue the month with a Lessons and Carols service, Breakfast with Saint Nicholas, and the Children’s Nativity Pageant. On the morning of December 24th, members of the Holy Spirit Community join the Altar Guild to arrange dozens of poinsettia plants and to create a huge poinsettia wreath that hangs above the altar which greets those attending Christmas Eve services and the Feast of the Nativity. We also set up a giving tree in the nave, supporting our various ministries that give back to the Houston area.
Lent & Easter
We traditionally end Ordinary Time with a Shrove Tuesday supper at Buffalo Grill Restaurant. This is a fun
evening, and is well attended by school families, teachers and staff, along with members of the church.
We then begin Lent early on the morning of Ash Wednesday with carpool ashes at school drop-off.
A School Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes is offered at noon, followed by a second congregational service that evening.
On a Sunday evening during the season our Music Director leads a Lenten Evensong. Members of the Altar Guild, Daughters of
the King and other parishioners come together before Palm Sunday to make palm crosses.
On Sunday the service begins at the outdoor altar, followed by a palm procession accompanied by hand bells.
We gather again on Holy Saturday to decorate the nave in preparation for the celebration of the Resurrection on Easter morning.

Blessing of the Animals
Our Annual Blessing of the Animals in celebration of the Feast of St. Francis is open to members of Holy Spirit community and neighbors. A short Eucharistic service includes blessing pets and stuffed animals, and there are usually treats for our beloved companions.
Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat is a yearly event with decorated car trunks and treats galore in the church parking lot. There are family activities,
plenty of photo ops, and it’s a great community event for the church, school, and neighborhood.

Community Auction
A joint project between the school and church, this annual event is an anticipated favorite. It includes live and silent auctions, dinner, and dancing. The proceeds from the event are shared between the school and the church, and used to fund specific projects. Past events have funded beautification of the church gardens, updating technology, and community outreach projects, among others.
